Many
European nations above all England, Portugal and Holland were involved in the
slave trade, but by 18th century had the monopoly of this trade. The Portugal
people were deported 150.000 slaves, the English people 144.000 and the Holland
people 50.000.
The
slave traders left Europe in ships full of manufactured goods and sailed to the
west coast of Africa. Here they exchanged their goods for black slaves and
toward where they sold the slaves. This trade is born because in America were
need of slaves for work on enormous plantations of cotton in the south of USA
where there were need of slaves for work in enormous plantations for18 hours in
the south of USA. In America, the slave traders sold the slave master. From
there the slave traders bought precious raw materials like cotton, tobacco,
sugar and coffe for the European markets and sailed back to Europe where they
sold this materials with a lot of earnings.
In
1807 the English government abolished this trade and in1808 it became illegal to
import slaves into the United States, slavery persisted especially in the south.
In
the1850 there were more than three million black slaves in the USA and most of
them worked in field of the south,
where living and working conditions terrible,
